NFL notes: Detroit’s Ndamukong Suh dodges questions

Ndamukong Suh said he is happy his suspension was lifted for Sunday’s playoff game in Dallas.

And that’s about all the Detroit defensive tackle was willing to offer about his successful appeal.

Suh spoke briefly, one day after a hearing officer overturned a one-game league suspension, saying the Lions’ star needed only to pay a $70,000 fine. Suh was suspended for stepping on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ left leg twice last Sunday in a loss to Green Bay, but he’ll be available for this weekend’s playoff game at Dallas.

“I’m just pleased with the decision and glad I have the opportunity – I can go against Dallas and help my teammates win the game,” Suh said. “I think that’s most important.”

Suh made it clear he wasn’t going to elaborate about his suspension or appeal. Later, Suh began repeatedly saying “next question” when pressed about the incident.

Suh has been fined eight times in his career, but this was the first in 2014.

Bell misses practice with balky right knee

While an MRI showed no major damage to Le’Veon Bell’s right knee following the legal if low hit by Cincinnati’s Reggie Nelson during Sunday night’s 27-17 win, the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing as if their team MVP won’t play when they host Baltimore in the wild-card round on Saturday night.

Bell did not practice, instead mixing some work on a stationary bike and some light running.

Newly signed Ben Tate and rookies Josh Harris and Dri Archer worked with the first team.

Haslett out as Redskins’ defensive coordinator

Jim Haslett is out after five seasons as defensive coordinator with the Washington Redskins.

The Redskins said in a news release that the team and Haslett “have mutually agreed to part ways.”

In Haslett’s five seasons with Washington, his defenses ranked no better than 20th in points allowed, including 30th and 29th the past two years.
