Girls hoop: East Valley holds off Pullman’s late rally

Elle Burland and Skylar Bastin scored 10 points apiece and East Valley withstood Pullman’s spirited fourth-quarter rally and beat the Greyhounds in a Great Northern League opener Saturday at East Valley.

The Greyhounds (4-5, 0-1) outscored the Knights 16-4 in the fourth, but Emily Fletcher’s two free throws in the final minute gave East Valley (7-2, 1-0) the cushion it needed.

Pullman’s Emily Drake tallied a game-high 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

The teams play again Jan. 16 at Pullman.

Clarkston 59, Cheney 40: The Bantams (4-4, 1-0) pulled away with a 21-6 fourth-quarter run and beat the host Blackhawks (4-5, 0-1). Clarkston’s Sequoia Swan scored 13 points and Jaclyn Meyers and Riley Denton each added 11. Cheney’s Kendyl Cone led all scorers with 16 points.

Nonleague

Rogers 60, Medical Lake 35: Loretta Guertin scored 20 points and Talia Felice and Sarah Guertin added 15 apiece as the Pirates (1-8) dumped the host Cardinals (2-5). Cassidy Hagel led Medical Lake with 11 points.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 56, Kettle Falls 41: Jenna Bennett had 21 points and eight rebounds and the Broncos (7-1) pulled away in the second half and beat the Bulldogs (4-6) in Ritzville.

Peyton Curtis added 13 points and Tessa Jantz added 11 points and eight rebounds for LRS. Kettle Falls’ Erin Johnson tallied a team-high 18 points.

Colfax 56, Northwest Christian 37: Amara Huber had 17 points and 15 rebounds and the Bulldogs (8-3) used a 16-7 first-quarter run to grab control and went on to beat the visiting Crusaders (10-1).

Scout Cai added eight points and seven rebounds for Colfax. Northwest Christian’s Rachel Bozlee and Mackenzi Gray combined for 28 points.

Reardan 35, St. George’s 28: The Indians (8-2) forced 19 turnovers and held the host Dragons (5-6) to 21 percent shooting in a win. Kamille Langford scored 10 points for Reardan and Claire Henning had 10 points for St. George’s.

Tekoa-Rosalia 55, Springdale 39: Olivia Pakootas had 20 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and four blocks as the Timberwolves (6-3) used a 19-8 fourth-quarter run to turn a close game into a rout of the Chargers (5-5) in Rosalia. Hannah Beach added 16 points for Tekoa-Rosalia.

Davenport 55, Liberty 39: Sydney Abbott had 20 points and 15 rebounds and Meika Abbott added 11 points – all coming in the second half – and the Gorillas (5-4) surged late and dumped the host Lancers (5-5).

Davenport trailed by three at halftime, but outscored Liberty 36-17 in the second half. The Lancers’ Christine Denny and Maggie Nelson combined for 22 points.

Curlew 46, Northport 20: Lindsay Gibson scored 19 points and the Cougars (6-4) forced 33 turnovers in an easy win over the Mustangs (1-7) at the Northport tournament. Northport’s Ashtyn Baribault tallied a team-high 13 points.

Pateros 47, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 32: Lori LeDoux and Ashton Steggall combined for 26 points and the Billygoats built a 10-point first-half lead and coasted past the Warriors (7-2) in Coulee City. ACH’s Brenna Oliver tallied a team-high 10 points.

Republic 50, Oroville 44: Shania Graham scored six of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Tigers (9-0) rallied late and beat the visiting Hornets. Graham also had seven rebounds and six steals for Republic, which outscored Oroville 14-5 in the fourth.

Southeast 1B

Colton 70, Garfield-Palouse 11: Zoe Moser had 20 points and seven steals and Savannah Chadwick added 14 points as the Wildcats (9-0, 4-0) routed the host Vikings (0-8, 0-4) for their 53rd straight victory, the fifth-longest streak in Washington state girls history. Colton will look to extend that streak Monday at home against Genesee.

Oakesdale 66, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 19: Jacey Johnson scored 16 points and the Nighthawks (5-3, 3-1) scored 22 unanswered points to open the game in an easy win over the Tigercats (0-4, 0-4) in Washtucna. Oakesdale’s Lindsey Lindgren had 13 points, Tatiana Mendoza added 11 and Logan Reed chipped in 10. LWK’s Jazzmyn Gordon tallied a team-high 11 points.
