Gonzaga men move up in AP poll to No. 6
Men’s basketball: Gonzaga moved up one spot in both polls, climbing to No. 6 in AP and No. 7 in the USA Today coaches rankings.
The Zags (14-1, 3-0 WCC) entertain San Francisco on Thursday and Santa Clara on Saturday. BYU (13-4, 3-1) received three votes in the AP poll. BYU and Saint Mary’s (11-3, 4-0) each received one vote in the coaches poll.
Kentucky was the unanimous No. 1 in the AP rankings for the fifth straight week.
Karnowski takes WCC weekly honor
Men’s basketball: Junior center Przemek Karnowski, who scored 21 points and made a key defensive play late in Gonzaga’s 87-75 win over Portland on Saturday, was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week.
Karnowski made his first career 3-pointer and finished 9 of 12 from the field.
He also stripped the ball away from Thomas van der Mars with 1:15 left and the Bulldogs protecting a 77-70 lead.
Harvey Big Sky Player of Week
Men’s basketball: Eastern Washington’s Tyler Harvey has been selected as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week after averaging 27.5 points per game in two wins.
Harvey scored a career-high 39 points in an 84-78 win over Weber State and had 16 points in a 65-57 win over Idaho State.
Harvey leads the nation in scoring at 23.4 points per game and in 3-point field goals per game at 4.60.
