Signed Free-agent outfielder Chris Denorfia signed a $2.6 million, one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs. Denorfia played for San Diego and Seattle last season, batting .230 with three homers and 21 RBIs in 121 games. He was traded to the Mariners on July 31.
• Outfielder Delmon Young signed a $2.25 million, one-year contract to play a second season with the Baltimore Orioles. With the Orioles in 2014, Young batted .302 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in 83 games in 2014.
Traded The Phoenix Suns acquired Brandan Wright from the Boston Celtics for a protected first-round draft pick. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 35 games this season for Dallas and Boston.
Pulled The Boston Celtics pulled forward Jeff Green from their starting lineup Friday amid rumors he would soon be dealt to Memphis. Green is averaging a team-best 17.6 points. He had started each of the Celtics’ previous 33 games and leads the team in minutes.
Hired Michigan hired Tim Drevno to serve as the offensive coordinator for new football coach Jim Harbaugh. Drevno was the offensive line coach under Harbaugh with the San Francisco 49ers during the 2011-13 seasons. At the college level, he was on Harbaugh’s staff at both Stanford (2007-10) and San Diego (2003-06).
Released Texas A&M released quarterback Kenny Hill from his athletic scholarship.
An Aggies spokesman confirmed reports of the release but declined comment on media reports that Hill intended to enroll at TCU. Hill started the first eight games of his sophomore season for the Aggies. Entered Alabama WR Amari Cooper, SS Landon Collins and RB T.J. Yeldon are skipping their senior seasons to enter the NFL draft. All-Americans Cooper and Collins are projected as likely top 10 picks. Draft projections have Yeldon possibly going as high as the second round.
Reunited The Bucks signed 37-year-old forward Kenyon Martin, reuniting the forward with former New Jersey Nets teammate and current Milwaukee coach Jason Kidd. Martin signed a 10-day contract. The team waived guard Nate Wolters to make room on the roster.
Extended The Columbus Blue Jackets signed goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to a four-year contract extension through the 2018-19 season. Bobrovsky, the 2013 Vezina Trophy winner, is 15-10-2 with a 2.75 goals-against average this season.
