Obituary: Davis, Mark C.
Age 84
He was born on March 20, 1930 to Merritt Aborn Davis and Doris Louise Talcott.
Mark was the youngest of four siblings.
His older siblings were Bud, Neil, and Shirley.
Mark grew up in Spokane and Seattle.
He graduated from West Valley High School in 1949.
He married his high school sweetheart, Bertie Joanne, in 1950.
He joined the Air National Guard’s 116th Squadron at Felts Field Airport.
While in college studying to be a teacher, he was called to duty during the Korean War, and he and Bertie Joanne moved to England where he was stationed.
After his tour, he finished his education at Eastern Washington University.
He was hired to teach fifth grade at Seth Woodard Elementary in the West Valley School District, and went on to earn his Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling.
He became a principal at Pasadena Park Elementary and Millwood Elementary.
He retired from West Valley School District after 25 years in public education.
Bertie Joanne passed away in 1993.
Mark wasn’t alone for long, and he married his second wife, Janice Kalstad, in 1999.
Janice brought with her a large, loving second family, and Mark’s family expanded to include Janice’s daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mark and Bertie Joanne are survived by their two children; Anne Louise (Davis) Thurman (Spokane) and Galen Mark Davis (Arlington, WA); three grandchildren, Brian Thurman, Ben Thurman, and Matthew Davis; and four great-grandchildren, Dee, Ali, Liam and Carrick.
Mark was a member of the Lilac City Gold Wing Motorcycle Club.
Mark found a spiritual home at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
There will be a memorial service at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 S. Schafer, Spokane Valley, on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 11:00 am.
