Feedback: A list of favorite local artists

Tom Quinn is known for his murals, including this one at Sprague and Division. (File)

We were delighted to see how much Inland Northwest folks love artists. A simple Facebook request about favorite local artists garnered dozens of responses, drawing on myriad types of artwork. We only have room to share a few here, but please go online to read the rest and share your own.

Autumn Joy

Artist brothers, Cain Benson & Todd Benson, who recently painted the Maple Street Mural downtown Spokane, as well as painted a piece for the Mobile Mural Project on Division. Currently they are painting a mural in the entire entryway of the Spokane Arena. Working in unison, their creative genius is innovative, inspiring and unique. They seek to bring out the best in human emotion, and consciousness. The Bensons’ art is mind-blowing!

Theresa Schimmels

Harold Balazs, love his fluidity and weird shapes. His stuff is all over town, from Riverfront Park to Hite Crane in Spokane Valley. ( Cindy Schultz chimed in: Harold is such a creative jewel in our city. Plus he is an interesting person. Our city would be boring without him.)

Susan Peterson

Debbie McCulley! She has the most beautiful & whimsical creations! Bright & vibrant! Her art is on Rosauers reusable shopping bags and also in Coeur d’Alene on utility boxes! She is awesome!

Stacy Loberg

Kimberly Loberg – she is my sister and amazing at art! You can find some of her work at NoLi Brewhouse on the chalkboards. She also does fun, girly colorful pictures that are my favorite!

Trudy Burda

Dorothy Fowler, whose beautiful bronze sculptures grace Spokane and the world! From the Michael Anderson astronaut piece at the convention center, to the glorious bas-relief doors at Our Lady of Lourdes cathedral, Dorothy’s timeless creations will be with us for many generations.

Jade Britton

Junior Burton, tattoo artist, great person, easy to work with, can do any kind of work from portraits to old school and is great with black and gray, if you describe something to him he can hit it on the spot, he is a true artist in the highest form!

John Edward Miller

Mel McCuddin, painter. Use of color, emotional depth, dark. Galleries around NW!

Joyce Wolff

Ken Spiering…he has given Spokane a special piece of art that all ages can enjoy … the red wagon.

Bill Benson

Dale Hamilton – His work can be seen every year since 1986 as the illustration for the yearly Spokesman-Review High School Outdoor Writing Contest, as well as the artwork of the SE Spokane County Fair. His artwork has been displayed in many galleries in Coeur d’Alene.

Lindsey Marie Bekemeyer

Tiffany Patterson! Her work is so whimsical to me and the colors are vibrant. You can see her creations in Global Credit Union’s advertisements and inside Neato Burrito. There used to be some impressive pieces under the bridge in Peaceful Valley but all the artwork there has been covered due to what I believe was excessive vandalism.

Kathy Lawhead

Sami Perry. She is extremely talented. The piece of art that most people right now would recognize is the Big Red Shoe at River Park Square!

John Bagwell Jr.

Tom Quinn – his murals around the city and the airport plus his carefully detailed paintings, many of which show a bit of humor or quirkiness. Plus his amazing knowledge about artists and their history.

Kaylene Hardin

Ben Joyce! He does abstract topophilia. His work is beautiful! I saw his pieces on display at the Downriver Grill the first time about 3 years ago and fell in love. It’s hard to describe what I like about his work because his technique is so unique. He uses a high gloss resin on the surface of his work and each piece is framed unconventionally, with a strategically placed missing portion of the frame that adds that much more interest to his art! I could go on and on! AND he has a brand new piece just installed in the portion of the convention center being renovated! It’s AMAZING!

Nadine Timm

How about David Govedare for “The Joy of Running Together,” otherwise known as the Bloomsday runners sculptures.

Bailey Nicole Mahugh

My favorite is Cheryl Gillihan-Seslar! She does fabulous graphic design! What I love most about her is that she started from the bottom and worked her way up, beginning with clay works in the ’90s, to painting wood crafts (she has three published craft books) and then she started her journey with graphic design and can create and make anything, she is a WA/Inland Northwesterner born and raised. Her graphics were on Barbra Streisand’s shirt in “The Guilt Trip” movie with Seth Rogen, too!

Ross Fautch

My personal favorite is Ric Gendron, who will be showing at the Jundt. His work is inspired through music and native themes. Unbelievable use of color and thought provoking themes.
