Obituary: Shaw, Bettie Mae
Age 87
She was born Bettie Mae Sharp, to Roy and Mary Ellen Sharp on October 31, 1927 in Wenatchee, WA.
She was the youngest of five children and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1945.
After high school she attended Kinman Business University in Spokane.
She met Alvin William Shaw in 1953 and they married on January 16, 1954.
Together they raised four children.
Bettie retired from Cowles Publishing after 38 years with that company.
She was a kind and creative person, always the first to offer help when needed.
She loved music and was a fabulous piano and accordion player.
She was an avid reader and incredible cook, her specialty being her pies.
Bettie loved to travel, adored hummingbirds, and could be heard whistling a tune wherever she went.
Bettie experienced significant tragedies in her life, both physical and emotional, but she never gave up and kept a smile on her face that could warm anyone’s heart.
Her spirit, hope and determination were truly remarkable and they are instilled in those whose lives she touched.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Dawnelle Shaw, Pat Shaw, and Nancy (Mike) Calkins; her beloved grandchildren Melanie Sjolund, Marissa Shaw, Ian Carroll and grandson in-law Timothy Sjolund; as well as her great-granddaughter Isabella.
Also she leaves three grandchildren in Florida.
She is preceded in death by her son, Alvin William Shaw Jr., her parents and siblings Paul Sharp, Dell Sharp, Irma Carmichael and Fern Clay.
Graveside Services will be held at Fairmont Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 26, 2015.
A celebration of Bettie’s life will be held at a later date.
