Ichiro has deal to join Marlins
Ichiro Suzuki and the Miami Marlins have agreed to a $2 million, one-year contract, pending a physical, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press.
The 10-time All-Star batted .284 last year for the New York Yankees. He has 2,844 MLB hits in 14 seasons with the Yankees and Seattle Mariners.
Combined with his 1,278 hits from nine seasons in Japan, Suzuki has 4,122 in his professional big league career.
Vogelsong, Giants reach agreement
Free agent right-hander Ryan Vogelsong reached agreement on a $4 million, one-year deal to stay with the San Francisco Giants. Vogelsong went 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 32 starts last season.
Cubs, Fowler agree to 1-year contract
The Cubs and recently acquired outfielder Dexter Fowler agreed to a $9.5 million, one-year contract, avoiding arbitration. Fowler, 28, hit .276 with eight homers and 35 RBIs last year in his only season with the Astros. He has a .271 career average.
Braves, Gomes deal pending physical
The Atlanta Braves and outfielder Jonny Gomes have agreed to a $4 million, one-year contract with a vesting option, a deal subject to a successful physical before it can be finalized. Gomes, 34, hit only .234 with a career-low six homers for Boston and Oakland last year. He hit .276 against left-handers.
Moreland, Rangers avoid arbitration
First baseman-DH Mitch Moreland agreed to a $2.95 million, one-year contract with the Texas Rangers, who avoided arbitration for the 15th year in a row. Moreland hit .246 with two homers and 23 RBIs in 52 games.
Schafer, Twins reach 1-year deal
The Minnesota Twins and outfielder Jordan Schafer agreed on a $1.55 million, one-year contract that avoided arbitration.
Schafer batted .285 with one home run, five doubles and 15 stolen bases in 41 games with the Twins last season.
