Injured Philadelphia 76ers guard Tony Wroten needs surgery for a partially torn ACL in his right knee and is sidelined indefinitely. Wroten was hurt in a game last week against New Orleans and was sent to a knee specialist in California. Wroten is averaging 16.9 points and 5.2 assists in 30 games this season. The former Washington Huskies star was the 25th overall pick in the 2012 draft by Memphis.

• Creighton guard Isaiah Zierden has sustained a season-ending knee injury for the second straight year. The sophomore partially tore the medial collateral ligament and injured the patella tendon in his right knee Wednesday against Butler. Zierden was second on the team with 9.5 points per game.

Transferring Notre Dame will allow safety Eilar Hardy to transfer after missing the first eight games of the 2014 season while the university investigated him and four other players for possible academic dishonesty. He has one season of eligibility left after not playing as a freshman and sophomore.

Returning Golfer Dustin Johnson plans to return from his leave of absence in two weeks at Torrey Pines. The Farmers Insurance Open said the 30-year-old Johnson has committed to play the tournament Feb. 5-8. It will be his first competition since he announced in early August that he was taking time off to seek professional help for “personal challenges.”

Retiring Golf analyst Peter Oosterhuis of England is retiring after 20 years at CBS Sports and Golf Channel. Oosterhuis won 20 times on the European Tour and played the PGA Tour for 11 years. He played on six Ryder Cup teams with a 14-11-3 mark. He worked the first two events Golf Channel ever broadcast in 1995, and joined CBS in 1998.

Extended Daytona International Speedway extended its partnership with Rolex as the title sponsor for the annual 24-hour endurance race. Rolex has been connected to Daytona since 1963, when it first presented a watch to winning drivers.
