‘Masters of Sex’ returns for Season 3 … and it’s 1965

“Masters of Sex”: It’s time again for making whoopee as the steamy drama kicks off its third season by jumping ahead four years. Now it’s 1965 and Masters (Michael Sheen) and Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) are about to become major celebrities as their groundbreaking study goes public. Meanwhile, the pioneering human-sexuality researchers continue to carry on their romance, even as Masters remains married to Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald). 10 p.m. Sunday, Showtime.

ToDAY: As Season 3 of “Ray Donovan” begins, our shady title character (Liev Schreiber) is on the rampage following the murder of his lover, Kate (Vinessa Shaw). Ian McShane and Katie Holmes join the fun as guest stars. 9 p.m., Showtime.

ToDAY: “The Strain” returns for a second season of creepy shenanigans and it’s clear that the citizens of New York City must fight or die. For their part, Eph (Corey Stoll) and Nora (Mia Maestro) work on a biological weapon in hopes of wiping out the evil bloodsuckers. 10 p.m., FX.

MONDAY: “Cuban Chrome” is the first U.S. television series to be produced entirely on location in Cuba. It takes viewers on a ride through Cuban culture while focusing on a group of passionate car enthusiasts who work to keep vintage American vehicles running in their island nation. 10 p.m., Discovery.

TUESDAY: Break out the peanuts and Cracker Jack. The best players from the National League take on their American League rivals in the MLB All-Star Game in Cincinnati. Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci call the action. 4 p.m. Fox.

TUESDAY: “Escaping ISIS” is a gripping new installment of “Frontline.” It delivers firsthand accounts of women who were rescued from the brutal reign of the Islamic State, thanks to the efforts of a former lawyer who operates an underground railroad. 9 p.m., KSPS; 10 p.m., KCDT.

WEDNESDAY: Joel McHale hosts the 23rd annual Espy Awards, celebrating standout athletes, teams and performances from the past year. Among the honorees: Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner, who is being presented with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. 8 p.m., ABC.

WEDNESDAY: “Impastor” is a new sitcom about a slacker (Michael Rosenbaum) attempting to flee a loan shark. He steals a man’s identity and poses as a gay pastor in a small town. Sara Rue also stars. 10:30 p.m., TV Land.

THURSDAY: Denis Leary returns to prime time in “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll.” He plays a washed-up, self-destructive musician who is desperate to get his band back together and make some money. The cast includes John Corbett. 10 p.m., FX.

FRIDAY: “Burgers, Brew & ‘Que” is a yummy new show that sends host Michael Symon in search of the nation’s best hamburgers, beer and barbecue. Please don’t lick the TV screen. 10:30 p.m., Food Network.

SATURDAY: It’s time to get that railroad work done. “Hell on Wheels” returns for its final season and Cullen (Anson Mount) finds himself in Truckee, where he and his crew are trying to tunnel through the Sierra Nevada mountains. 9 p.m., AMC.
