Obituary: Burns, Doris A.

BURNS, Doris A. Doris Burns passed away July 2, 2015 in her home in Spokane Valley, WA.

She was born in 1924 in southern New Jersey as one of seven children of Helen and Frank Hart.

She graduated from Moorestown High School and married her H.S.

sweetheart, Robert Burns Jr.

He joined the Marine Corps and while he was overseas during WWII, she worked as a butcher for the local grocery store by day and waited tables at night to save money for their first apartment.

Following the war, she worked making men’s suits while Bob attended college.

Following his graduation as an electrical engineer, Bob and Doris moved many times.

They lived in Wenatchee, WA, for ten years before moving to Spokane Valley in 2000.

She loved gardening, her black labs all named Vicky, and her cats named Gracie.

She was active, kind and a loving mother.

Doris is survived by her son Robert (Lynda) Burns III of Spokane Valley; her grandson Todd (Elisha) and her great-grandchildren Landon and Merritt Burns all of Portland, OR; and her sister Janet Kuhlwind of Moorestown, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents and five of her siblings.

The family wishes to thank Horizon Hospice for their loving care.

At Doris’ request, no service will be held.
