Obituary: Mcburney, Mary Jean

Age 90

McBURNEY, Mary Jean Mary Jean McBurney was born on November 23, 1924 in Peoria, Illinois to James and Alice McBurney.

Her father was a noted mural artist, who created murals in Illinois and the Northwest.

She died on June 28, 2015.

Mary Jean was a registered nurse, who did her schooling at the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Chicago during the waning days of World War II.

She was a nurse in Spokane at Deaconess Hospital, St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Center, and various nursing homes.

Ms. McBurney is survived by three son’s, Wayne McBurney, Bruce Berberian and William McBurney; two grandchildren, Aaron and Amanda Berberian; and many others that called her a “second mother” for the ways in which she cared for them.

Mary Jean was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Spokane Garry chapter, the Daughters of Union Veterans, Tent four, and the Coeur d’Alene chapter fo the Eagles Auxiliary.

She served with the Irving Parent-Teachers Association and provided leadership to Troop 12 of the BSA, where all three sons became Eagle Scouts.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 15th, at 1:00pm, at the First Presbyterian Church of Spokane, 318 South Cedar, Spokane, WA.
