The Kansas City Royals have used last year’s World Series appearance, this year’s hot start and some early-season fireworks to catapult the team toward a potentially record-breaking All-Star Game.

Seven players on the A.L. champion Royals are on track to start in the July 14 game at Cincinnati in what would be a record total for one team.

Catcher Salvador Perez, first baseman Eric Hosmer, shortstop Alcides Escobar, third baseman Mike Moustakas and designated hitter Kendrys Morales all led their positions in voting totals released Monday.

Lorenzo Cain was first among A.L. outfielders, with teammate Alex Gordon third, behind A.L. MVP Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels.

“It’s really exciting,” Hosmer said. “Just to see your name on the ballot is exciting enough. Then to realize there’s only three weeks left in the voting and a lot of us are at the top of it, it’s really cool and really special for a lot of us.”

Kansas City’s Omar Infante was second among second basemen with 2.65 million votes, 150,000 behind A.L. batting champion Jose Altuve of Houston.

Major League Baseball said the record for most starters from one team is held by the 1939 New York Yankees with six: catcher Bill Dickey, center fielder Joe DiMaggio, second baseman Joe Gordon, third baseman Red Rolfe, pitcher Red Ruffing and left fielder George Selkirk.

Fan’s condition upgraded

The condition of the woman hit by a broken bat at Boston’s Fenway Park has been upgraded to fair.

The family of Tonya Carpenter issued a statement Monday that said: “Tonya is responsive, and her condition has been upgraded from serious to fair.”

Carpenter, 44, was struck in the head in the second inning Friday night when the bat of Oakland’s Brett Lawrie broke and sailed into the seats along the third-base line.

Commissioner Rob Manfred says MLB will re-evaluate fan safety at stadiums following the serious injury to Carpenter.

Conley called up to Marlins

Former Washington State pitcher Adam Conley has been called up to the Miami Marlins.

Conley, a second-round pick by the Marlins in 2011, owns a 5-2 record with a 3.05 ERA and 44 strikeouts over 59 innings in 10 starts at Triple-A New Orleans this season. The lefty from Olympia is coming off one of the best outings in his career, striking out eight over 7 1/3 innings in a win at Tacoma on Friday.

Conley did not throw in Monday’s game at Toronto. He is expected to pitch out of the bullpen and possibly serve as a spot-starter.

Clearing the bases

The Phillies signed RHP Kevin Correia to a one-year deal and they plan to start him Friday. … The Rockies placed RHP Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day DL with vertigo symptoms. … Padres RHP Brandon Morrow has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from right shoulder inflammation.
