Acquired The Detroit Pistons have acquired veteran Ersan Ilyasova from the Milwaukee Bucks, adding a long-range shooter to their frontcourt. Detroit sent forwards Caron Butler and Shawne Williams to Milwaukee in the trade.
Released The Philadelphia Eagles have released two-time Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis. Mathis had played in Philadelphia since 2011, starting in 56 games including all the Eagles’ games in 2012 and 2013.
Announced NBA star Carmelo Anthony announced that he is bringing a professional soccer team to Puerto Rico for the first time in three years. The new club, called Puerto Rico FC, will begin playing in the Division II North American Soccer League in fall 2016.
Submitted The World Baseball Softball Confederation has submitted an official proposal to Tokyo organizers for the addition of men’s baseball and women’s softball at the 2020 Games. Baseball and softball were dropped after the 2008 Beijing Olympics but are considered favorites to return for the Tokyo Games because of their popularity in Japan and the availability of existing facilities.
Hopeful Former New York Giants running back David Wilson hopes to qualify for the U.S. track and field championships in the triple jump at his first professional meet Saturday. Wilson was forced to retire in August after two NFL seasons because of a neck injury. The former first-round draft pick had been a successful triple jumper at Virginia Tech despite devoting little time to the sport because of his football commitments.
Transferred Minnesota United has agreed to transfer 25-year-old midfielder Miguel Ibarra to Leon in Mexico’s top division. Ibarra has been with Minnesota since 2012 and earned the 2014 North American Soccer League Golden Ball. He became the first second division player to appear for the U.S. national team since 2005.
Named Canadian IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe has been named grand marshal for Sunday’s race through the streets of Toronto. Hinchcliffe, from Oakville, Ontario, has been sidelined since a life-threatening injury suffered May 18.
Cleared Pittsburgh Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis has been cleared to return to full-contact workouts after missing most of the 2014-15 season due to blood clots. General manager Jim Rutherford said the blood clot has dissolved, though he will continue to take blood-thinning medication.
