Obituary: Lacy, Thomas Patrick “Tom”
Age 92
He passed away suddenly on June 9, 2015 at his home at Touchmark Senior Living Center where he had resided since March, 2014.
He lived and worked in Spokane his entire life, except for his time in the military service.
He grew up across the street from St. Aloysius Church on Boone Avenue.
He attended St Al’s grade school and graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1941.
He joined the US Navy in December, 1942 and served in both World War II and Korea, spending most of the time on Destroyer Escorts.
He continued his military service following the wars, serving in the Naval Reserves and retiring as a Lieutenant Commander from the Naval Reserves in May 1983.
Upon his return to Spokane, he attended and graduated from Gonzaga University and then Gonzaga Law School.
In 1950 he married Jo Dorsey and they had five children, Patrick, Sara, Martha, Michael and Monica.
He was an independent Insurance adjustor owning his own business Lacy and Associates, until he retired and sold the business in the early 1990’s.
Jo Lacy passed away in 1994 and a year later he married Mary Miller Elliot.
They celebrated their 20 year anniversary on May 1, 2015.
They had fun in those 20 years, traveling to many places and enjoying as many afternoons as they could at the Knights of Columbus.
Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, always having a story to tell, his loyalty and always having a smile on his face with a twinkle in his eye.
He had a tremendous amount of integrity in his personal and professional life.
He was involved in many activities in his years.
He was an active Elk when he was younger, a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
Tom is survived by his wife Mary, his son Pat Lacy, son Mike Lacy and his wife Beverly, daughter’s Sara Simshauser and husband Gene, Martha Meeks and husband Nick and Monica Smith and husband Mark.
Step children John Thomas Miller and his wife Vickie and Mary Pat Laushot.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was also predeceased by his first wife Jo, parents Tom and Sarah, sisters Pat Lacy, Betty Conyard and Sally Ann Lacy Tom loved his family deeply, loved his many friends, his faith, his country, his Irish Heritage and Gonzaga University.
When asked what he wanted in his obituary he said he was the last surviving member of the 1940 American Legion Baseball/Gonzaga Team and his position was second base.
Hennessey is in charge of services and the Funeral Mass will be at St. Aloysius on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 10:00 AM with burial immediately following.
There will be a visitation available at Hennessey from 2:00-5:00 on Wednesday, June 17, 2015.
