Obituary: Doneen, James Sr. “Jim”

DONEEN, James, Sr. “Jim” James “Jim” Doneen Sr. died while on his beloved boat at Lake Coeur d’Alene on June 6, 2015.

The family is very grateful to his many friends on ‘C’ Dock who extended their hands to help Jim.

Jim was born in Spokane on May 16, 1942 to Stanley and Isabelle (Bernard) Doneen.

He attended and graduated from the Oakesdale schools and also attended Washington State University in Pullman for two years.

On March 9, 1963 he married (Elizabeth) Anne Remillong.

Together that had two children.

After a subsequent divorce, Jim married Ellen Hulett and welcomed her two children to the family.

Jim was a long time farmer.

Next to his family his first love was to farm his family and friends land of the Palouse.

His joy extended on to his grandsons with whom he helped farm lands passed down from their maternal grandmother.

Jim was handy with tools and could fix anything, if you weren’t doing it the right way then he was soon doing it for you.

Jim was a man of many interests, he loved steelhead fishing with his buddies at Lower Granite Dam, boating, raising cattle (affectionately known as ‘the girls’) dancing, traveling and watching Gonzaga Basketball.

No person was a stranger to Jim, he could and would strike up a conversation with anyone.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Paul Doneen.

He is survived by his sister Arlene Wingender, children Theresa M. Sheely (Phillip), James R. Doneen Jr. (Heidi) and grandsons Cory, Dylan and Nicholas Doneen.

He is also survived by his ex-wife Ellen, two stepchildren Sandy Webb and Roger Doneen and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 10:00 am at the Hennessy Funeral home in the Spokane Valley.

A reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that you remember Jim with a donation to the charity of your choice.
