Obituary: Dorman, Helen N.

Age 87

DORMAN, Helen N. Was born in Spokane, Washington on June 29th 1928 to Dale M. Dorman and Sadie K. Dorman and went to be with her Lord Jesus on June 15th., 2015.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents Dale M. Dorman and Sadie K. Dorman, her sister Dorothy R. Garbutt, and her niece Kathleen R. McDowell.

She is survived by her nephews Max Garbutt, Michael Garbutt, Daniel Garbutt, Randy Garbutt, her niece Debbee Hollick and their families.

She attended Spokane schools and graduated from John R. Rogers High School on January 27th 1947.

She also attended the Salvation Army School of Officers Training and became a pastor in the Salvation Army Church.

Due to her mother’s illness, her commission as a pastor was only for a brief time period.

Later she worked in several types of jobs.

In 1968 she decided to attend Spokane Falls Community College and study to become a teacher.

She received her degree from Eastern Washington University finishing in 1972.

After graduating from Eastern, she taught in several school districts in elementary grades.

Leaving public schools, Helen accepted a position at the Salvation Army, becoming the Director/Principal of the preschool/day care/kindergarten.

Helen retired in 1994, but stayed active in the Salvation Army Corps.

Helen was an artist and enjoyed painting and writing poetry.

Some of her greatest joys were playing in the Salvation Army Church band and singing in the church choir for many years.

Helen joined Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, holding the positions of Alpha President and Chaplain.

Helen enjoyed traveling abroad to six countries and the Holy Land.

Aunt Helen was very spiritual and you could always count on her to pray for you which she did every night.

Auntae’ will be truly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe from 1pm - 5pm.

Funeral Service will be Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Salvation Army Church, 222 E. Indiana at 11am.

Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
