Banned Florida State freshman quarterback De’Andre Johnson was suspended indefinitely from the team Thursday for a violation of athletic department policy. Other media outlets are reporting an altercation involving Johnson on Wednesday night at a Tallahassee bar. Johnson led Jacksonville’s First Coast High School to a 12-1 season last year.

Alleged Authorities in Las Vegas have charged NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp with biting his girlfriend, throwing her to the ground and stepping on her head in an April incident that began at the M Resort in Henderson, Nevada. The criminal complaint charges Sapp with three domestic battery misdemeanors that carry up to 18 months in jail if he’s convicted.

Repaired Colorado senior guard Xavier Johnson underwent surgery to fix his torn left Achilles tendon. There’s no timetable for his return after he suffered the injury earlier this month in an offseason workout. Johnson averaged 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds last season.

Traded The Colorado Avalanche acquired Swedish forward Carl Soderberg from the Boston Bruins for a sixth-round pick in 2016. The 29-year old Soderberg had 13 goals and 31 assists last season. Appointed Syracuse men’s basketball assistant Mike Hopkins has been formally given the title of head coach designate to succeed Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim after the 2017-18 season. In March, Boeheim announced that he will retire in three years and said he wanted Hopkins to take over for him.

Disciplined UNC Greensboro’s athletic programs received two years of probation after improperly certifying the initial eligibility of 57 athletes in 13 sports over six seasons. The NCAA and the school announced the penalties, which include vacating wins in which ineligible players participated and paying a $5,000 fine.

Adjudicated Los Angeles Kings center Jarret Stoll pleaded guilty to two reduced misdemeanor charges to resolve a felony cocaine case stemming from his April arrest in Las Vegas. Stoll was sentenced to 32 hours of community service with the Salvation Army and will create a program to teach youths the dangers of the use of alcohol and controlled substances.

Excluded Sprinter Usain Bolt has been removed from a list of competitors for the 100 meters at the Jamaica championships. The six-time Olympic gold medalist was due to compete in the 100 in Kingston. No reason was given for Bolt’s withdrawal.
