Colts parting ways with Wayne

Wayne

Indianapolis gave Reggie Wayne the answer he didn’t want to hear.

They don’t want him back.

Calling it a sad day, team owner Jim Irsay announced that the Colts would part ways with one of the greatest receivers in franchise history. Wayne will become an unrestricted free agent next week.

In Indy’s three playoff games last season, Wayne had one catch for 12 yards.

He’s second in franchise history in receptions (1,070), yards receiving (14,345), touchdown catches (80) and 100-yard games (43). He played in more games (211) and won more game (143) than any player in Colts’ history, had four 100-catch seasons, eight 1,000-yard seasons, six Pro Bowl selections, 12 playoff appearances and one Super Bowl ring.

If Wayne doesn’t play again, he will retire at No. 7 in NFL history in receptions and No. 8 all-time in yards receiving.

Jets to acquire Marshall from Bears

Brandon Marshall is heading from the Chicago Bears to the New York Jets, pending a physical exam.

The trade, the first by new Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan, is for an unspecified draft pick and cannot become official until the NFL’s new league year begins next Tuesday.

Marshall has 773 career receptions for 1,289 yards and 65 touchdowns in nine NFL seasons.

Chargers sign WR Jacoby Jones

The San Diego Chargers signed wide receiver and kicker returner Jacoby Jones, who was cut by Baltimore last week.

Jones was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 2012 season. In 44 games with Baltimore, he returned six kicks for touchdowns and owned a franchise-record 30.1-yard career kickoff return average.

He also caught 76 passes for 992 yards and three touchdowns in regular season play.

Panthers sign OT Oher to replace Bell

The Panthers signed free agent offensive tackle Michael Oher to a two-year contract. Terms were not immediately available.

Oher, the subject of the popular movie “The Blind Side,” gives the Panthers an experienced option at left tackle. Carolina has already informed last year’s starting left tackle Byron Bell he will not be re-signed.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Oher is a veteran of six NFL seasons.

Broncos tender top tackler Marshall

The Denver Broncos have tendered their three exclusive rights free agents, a group led by top tackler Brandon Marshall, who will receive $585,000 in 2015. Tackle Paul Cornick and guard Ben Garland will each receive $510,000.
