Getting There: March 12 — The Spokane City Council on Monday (tonight) will consider lowering the speed limit on a part of Inland Empire Way that sees less vehicular use thanks to the new interchange at Cheney-Spokane Road and U.S. Highway 195.
From 23rd Avenue south, Inland Empire would be 25 mph, down from 30 mph and 35 mph, depending on the portion of the road.
— by Nick DeshaisSirens and Gavels: March 13 — An Atlanta bar has dropped its lawsuit against the defunct Spokane Downtown Daiquiri Factory.
Kechia Matadin, owner of The Daiquiri Factory in Atlanta, sued Spokane bar owner Jamie Pendleton last May for alleged copyright infringement following a national controversy over “Date Grape Kool-Aid,” one of Pendleton’s drink names.
Matadin’s attorney asked to be removed from the federal case in January. This week, U.S. District Court Judge Lonny Suko dismissed the case.
Meanwhile, Pendleton continues to fight to move back into his location on Wall Street. Briefs have been filed in the Washington Court of Appeals asking that a Spokane County judge’s eviction order be overturned.

Spin Control: March 10 — Two new candidates have joined the race for Spokane City Council.
John Ahern, a former Republican legislator and failed Spokane City Council candidate, filed to run for the South Hill seat held by Councilman Mike Allen, who is not seeking re-election.
Randy Ramos, who works at the Spokane Tribal College, is the first opponent of Councilman Mike Fagan for the seat representing northeast Spokane.
Ahern was trounced by incumbent Councilman Jon Snyder two years ago, when Snyder was voted in by a two-to-one margin. When Allen said he wouldn’t run again, and LaVerne Biel said she’d take a run at the seat, local Republicans said there was an organized effort to persuade Ahern to run for the school board instead of the City Council. In 2013, Ahern edged Biel out during the primary, despite many in the GOP saying Biel had a better chance to win.
Lori Kinnear, Councilwoman Amber Waldref’s aide, and John Waite, who owns Merlyn’s, also are running for the South Hill seat.
