Obituary: Wallen, Roderick
After graduating from Gonzaga Boys High School, he joined the Coast Guard.
He was stationed in Florida and then Seward Alaska.
After his service in the Coast Guard, Rod attended University of Montana in Missoula where he met his wife, Dorene.
They wed May 6th., 1947.
Honeymooning in Seattle, Rod and Dorene decided to stay there.
In May of 1948, they welcomed their first child, Berna Lee.
Eventually getting a job with Washington Water Power, Rod and Dorene moved to the Nine Mile Falls area.
By now they have welcomed two more children, a daughter Anita and son Lloyd.
Rod worked as a dam operator at the Nine Mile Falls plant and then at the Post Falls plant for a short time before retiring after 30 plus years with WWP.
Rod and Dorene wintered in Yuma, Arizona where they enjoyed the sun and swimming.
Rod is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorene, daughter Bernie Jones, daughter Anita Wallen, son Lloyd Wallen and granddaughter Becka Bruce Shelley (Erik).
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 20th at 12:30 pm at Fairmount Cemetery.
