Police seek boyfriend of shooting victim

Cameron D. Keith has been identified as a person of interest in the death of his girlfriend. (Spokane Police Department)
Police are searching for Cameron D. Keith, 28, who has been identified as a person of interest in the death of his girlfriend, Christen N. DeMars, 22. DeMars was found in her apartment at 2928 E. Diamond Tuesday morning and it was initially thought that she was overdosing on drugs. She was vomiting and unresponsive when police arrived. A neighbor called 911 to report hearing a gunshot and yelling. After he got off the phone a man knocked on his door and asked if he knew CPR. The neighbor said he didn’t really know CPR but went into the apartment and attempted to revive DeMars, who was lying on the bed, according to court documents. While the was attempting CPR the other man fled. The neighbor told police that he thought the woman was overdosing, but a police officer told paramedics that the woman may have been shot, court documents say. Medics searched the woman and found a gunshot wound above her right hip. Information released Tuesday by the police department incorrectly indicated that DeMars’ wound was not discovered until she reached the hospital. A .45 caliber handgun and ammunition was found in the apartment, along with syringes and other drug paraphernalia. DeMars had gotten a protection order barring Keith from contacting her. Keith has several recent convictions for violating a protection order.
