Foxx: Some attacks on his anthem unfair

From Wire Reports

Jamie Foxx is defending his national anthem performance at the Floyd Mayweather- Manny Pacquiao fight against online criticism.

On “Entertainment Tonight” Tuesday, Foxx said that his earpiece fell off just before he started to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” He said he had to follow the accompanying organ music through arena speakers at Saturday’s fight in Las Vegas.

Despite that, he got an enthusiastic response from the crowd and individual compliments from Denzel Washington and others, Foxx said.

When he learned that online posts were taking him to task, Foxx said he listened to a playback and realized the song was a bit off. But Foxx said he hadn’t committed, in his words, “a sin against America” and said the anthem sounded “great” in the arena.

Posts that questioned if he could sing went too far, Foxx said.

Expect big tab for lunch with Buffett

Those hoping to sit down to a meal with billionaire Warren Buffett should be prepared to shell out big bucks.

Buffett will again auction off a private lunch to raise money for a California homeless charity. Buffett is chairman and CEO of Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway.

Bidding for the lunch on eBay will begin May 31 and close June 5. Bidding starts at $25,000. Bidders must prequalify.

The annual auction benefits the Glide Foundation, which provides social services to the poor and homeless in San Francisco.

Last year’s winner paid nearly $2.2 million to dine with Buffett. The winning bids have topped $2 million for the past six years.

The winner can invite up to seven friends to join the lunch at Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in New York City.

Carey will perform at Billboard show

Mariah Carey is set to perform at the Billboard Music Awards for the first time in 17 years, but the pop superstar is keeping mum on what song she’ll sing.

Billboard and Dick Clark productions announced Tuesday that Carey will appear on the May 17 show in Las Vegas. Billboard said the singer has more No. 1 songs on its Hot 100 chart than any other solo artist in the chart’s 56-year history.
