Bolt strikes in 200 meters at Golden Spikes

Track and field: Usain Bolt cruised to victory in the 200 meters race at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on Tuesday as the Jamaican star prepares for the world championships after a season marred by injuries.

The six-time Olympic champion came out of the bend slightly ahead and breezed unchallenged to victory, crossing the line in 20.13. Isiah Young of the United States finished second in 20.35 and Lykourgos Stefanos Tsakonas of Greece was third.

“The shape that I’m in, and I’m coming back, I don’t really know what to say is a decent time, or not,” Bolt said. “I think I just need races.”

Korver to have surgery on ankle

NBA: Atlanta Hawks guard Kyle Korver will have surgery on the right ankle he injured in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The NBA’s best 3-point shooter in the regular season, Korver was injured when he was scrambling for a loose ball and his ankle was rolled on by Cleveland’s Matthew Dellavedova.

Kaepernick apologizes for storm post

NFL: 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick apologized for a post on social media that referenced flood-ravaged Houston, where San Francisco opens the preseason Aug. 15.

Kaepernick had posted on Twitter and Instagram earlier Tuesday a photo of submerged cars and this message: “I warned you the (hash)7torms Coming !!! (hash)Houston. Kaepernick’s jersey number is 7.

He wrote: “I’m so sorry about my insensitive post earlier today. I didn’t fully understand how many people are struggling in Houston right now and I feel horrible. My prayers are with everyone there.”

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson offered his support.

“Praying for all the people in Houston… Healing is on the way!” he wrote on Twitter.

Hall of Fame Human Spirit awards named

Basketball: Former Reebok CEO Paul Fireman, Kansas coach Bill Self and former NBA veteran Steve Smith have been named winners of the 2015 Mannie Jackson – Basketball’s Human Spirit Award.

The winners will be recognized on Sept. 10 at the Reunion Dinner on the Hall of Fame’s Center Court during Enshrinement Weekend.

Oregon adds Hegarty to bolster O-line

Colleges: Former Notre Dame center/guard Matt Hegarty is transferring to Oregon, where he will be eligible to play immediately as a graduate student.

Hegarty played in 34 games for the Fighting Irish, including 11 starts last season moving between guard and center. The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder could help fill the spot on Oregon’s line.

• New investigation into Illinois player allegations: The University of Illinois hired a Chicago law firm to launch a second investigation into accusations of mistreatment made by the parents of former women’s basketball players.

The investigation will focus on accusations that coach Matt Bollant and now-former assistant coach Mike Divilbiss verbally abused players and created racial tension on the team.
