Obituary: Austin, John S.
Age 85
He passed away May 20, 2015 in Spokane.
John completed high school in Watertown.
After that, he entered the Air Force, from 1949-1970.
He retired as a Master Sergeant.
He served in Korea and was also stationed in Pennsylvania, England, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Washington, Turkey, and Los Angeles among others.
After he retired, John sold TVs in Los Angeles.
After the San Fernando earthquake of 1971, the family moved to Spokane.
Soon he began working for Anderberg Chevrolet in Rosalia, WA, where he worked for many years.
He then tended bar at the Camelot Restaurant at 5-Mile Shopping Center.
John loved fishing, gardening and barbecuing.
He came late in life to using computers and enjoyed communicating with family this way.
His greatest love in life was his grandchildren.
He married Shirley Jean Reynolds in 1950.
They were married until her passing in 1994.
They had three sons, Allen Gene Austin (Tatiana), John Kirby Austin, and David Joe Austin.
In 1996, John married Vera Deatherage, and they were married until her passing in 2013.
She has three daughters, Sheri, Brenda and Shannon.
John is survived by his three sons, six grandchildren, Kristina, Tamalyn, Shawna and Nika, and, Indigo and Coal, her three stepdaughters, siblings: Richard Carroll Austin from Parishville, NY, Varian Aileen (Austin) Senick of Waterville, NY, Julia Margaret (Austin) O’Rourke of Jacksonville, FL, Catherine (Austin) Williams of Potsdam, NY, Ronald Charles Austin of Potsdam, NY.
He is preceded in death by wife Shirley, second wife Vera, grandson Matthew, both parents, and a brother Donald James Austin.
A Memorial Service for John will be held, Friday, May 29, at 2pm at Heritage Chapel.
