Armatrading coming to town

After a nearly 40 year career, Joan Armatrading is taking leave of the touring scene.

The British singer-songwriter has embarked on her final major tour, and that road is leading to the Inland Northwest for the first time in many years.

The 64-year-old blues rock icon isn’t retiring. But in a statement on her website, she writes, “I have absolutely enjoyed the last 42 years of performances but now, with my final major tour, I want to capture a unique memory for both myself and the audience.”

Since 1972, Armatrading has released nearly two dozen albums, and been nominated for three Grammys. “Drop the Pilot” and “Kind Words (And a Real Good Heart)” both hit the U.S. singles charts, and the video for the single “(I Love it When You) Call Me Names” was on frequent rotation on MTV in the early ’80s.

Armatrading will be performing solo, and will be in Spokane at the Bing Crosby Theater on Oct. 25. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through TicketsWest. They’ll be $44, $48 and $55.
