Obituary: Atwood, Marjorie Simpson

Age 92

ATWOOD, Marjorie Simpson Marjorie Simpson (Bailey) Atwood was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923 in Melrose, MA, the fourth of ten children to Charles W. Bailey and Eunice May (Stantial) Bailey.

Marjorie peacefully slipped into the presence of the Lord on October 13, 2015.

When she was born her mother wondered if she was going to be an Easter lily or an April fool.

Anyone who knew her knows she was nobody’s fool.

She was a woman of strong opinions and wasn’t hesitant to share them freely.

Marjorie married Floyd Everhart Atwood February 14, 1946 and they raised four children together.

She went to work for the city of Spokane as a clerk typist in the building department at the city.

She worked closely with all of the city building inspectors issuing building permits and boiler and elevator licenses.

She was an active member with the Moose Lodge and an avid bowler up until 2010.

Midge, as she was known, bowled in three to four leagues at a time during the winter and enjoyed golfing with family and friends during the summer months.

She was also known for the beautiful blankets she knitted, they are treasured by family and friends.

Marjorie was an avid reader and world traveler visiting Europe, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand with her daughter Judy in the 1990s.

She visited every state of the Union with the exception of Alaska and most of the Provinces of Canada in her many trips across and throughout North America.

Her travels took her to the places she had only read about in the many book she had in her personal library.

She traveled by herself on most of these car trips, keeping in touch with her family and classmates from Dartmouth High School.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her mother, father, two brothers, two sisters, her husband Floyd and both of her daughters, Judy Shannon and Patricia Singleton.

She is survived by her sons Floyd Everett (Ginette) Atwood of Lake Elsinore, California and Daryl J.

(Kristine) Atwood of Spokane.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

There will be no memorial services per Marge’s request.

A celebration of her life is planned at a future date.

She wants everyone to simply remember her as she was.

Donations can be made in her name to a charity of your choice or to the USO, Wounded Warrior Project or Alzheimer Foundation of America.
