Obituary: Senger, Frieda

SENGER, Frieda (Age 92) Passed away November 5, 2015 in Spokane, WA.

She was born on July 2, 1923 in Dodge, North Dakota.

Frieda is survived by her children; Carol (Jim) McConnell, Larry, Patti (Ted) Aked, and John E., all of Spokane; her grand- children Jacob (Nicole), Ann (Darin), Kim (Ted), Tim, Melissa (Adam) and John H.; her great-grandchildren Ava and Sophie, Eliza and Levi, Tilly, Carsten and Dylan, and Twyla; her sister Nettie Fischer and her brother Edwin (Glenna Rae) Keller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin (a WWI veteran) and Emelia Keller; her husband John Senger; two sisters who died in their infancy Amelia and Amanda, her brother Alfon B. Keller and her sister Elenora A. Krueger.

Frieda received a teaching degree from Dickinson State College and taught elementary school in Zap, ND for two years.

During WWII she lived and worked in Seattle.

After the war she returned to ND to help her ailing mother.

She later moved to Spokane where she met John Senger (a WWII veteran) who became her husband of 67 years.

They were married on August 22, 1946 in St. Francis Xavier Church.

They were active and devout members of that church until they had to leave their home in that parish for health reasons.

Frieda and John both spent their final years in the Avalon Care Center where they received loving and compassionate care, for which their family will always be sincerely grateful.

Frieda was a dedicated wife, and a loving, supportive and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Her family was the center of her world.

She unselfishly devoted her life to their wellbeing.

When faced with life’s challenges, including twice, when she was in her 40s, with cancer, she was persevering, determined and uncomplaining.

She had a life-long love of dancing.

In her golden years she also enjoyed fishing with her husband.

She looked forward to watching golf matches and horse races on TV.

She also enjoyed watching Gonzaga U. basketball games and she faithfully filled out an NCAA bracket every year.

Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Frieda was fond of her.

She will be missed with genuine sadness and remembered with love by her family and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 10 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and a Rosary Service will take place at 7:00 p.m., both in the Rose Chapel at Hennessey Funeral Home.
