Ten things to do on the cheap Oct. 16-22:

1. “Richard III” Opens Friday and continues through Oct. 24; Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and a 2 p.m. matinee this Sunday; Whitworth University, Cowles Auditorium, 300 W. Hawthorne Road. 2. 37th Annual Quilt Show Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St. “Vive La Difference,” annual show presented by Washington State Quilters-Spokane Chapter, featuring more than 500 quilts, more than 50 vendors and Master Quilter demonstrations. 3. “Haymarket Eight” Opens Friday, continues through Nov. 1; 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays, Stage Left, 108 W. Third Ave. Based on historical events, this abstract drama takes place in Chicago in 1886, where demonstrations condemn inhumane conditions for workers. Eight labor leaders are falsely convicted of a murderous act, and a young journalist risks his own happiness and safety in an effort to clear their names. (509) 838-9727. Admission: $10

4. Gonzaga Women’s Basketball Fan Fest 4 p.m. Saturday, McCarthey Athletic Center, 801 N. Cincinnati St. Meet the 2015-16 Gonzaga women’s basketball team in the Blue & White Scrimmage. The festivities will also include appearances by Spike and the Gonzaga cheerleaders, performances by the Gonzaga Dance Team & Bomb Squad, an autograph session with the basketball team and more. 9. Walk the Talk: James Meredith 6:30 p.m. Friday, Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., North Idaho College, Coeur d’Alene. The first black student to enroll at the University of Mississippi will join a panel discussion looking at civil rights, past and present.
