Men’s basketball: Whitworth ranked No. 3 in national poll

Whitworth’s men’s basketball team received its highest ranking in a preseason poll Thursday when D3hoops.com tabbed the Pirates at No. 3.

Whitworth returns four starters and nine letterwinners from last year’s team that finished 15-1 in the Northwest Conference and 25-4 overall. The Pirates advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Returners include Kenny Love, last year’s NWC Player of the Year, and Christian Jurlina, the team’s leading scorer last season.

“We have a talented and experienced group coming back and they are very hungry to realize their potential,” Pirates head coach Matt Logie said.

Whitworth will open the regular season at 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 13 against visiting La Verne (California).
