Washington prep volleyball: Mead clinches No. 2 district berth
Kim Wong and Amanda Chan combined for 27 kills Thursday as Mead (8-1) earned at least second place in Greater Spokane League volleyball with a 3-1 win over visiting University (7-2).
McKenna Russell added 20 assists and Payton Douglass 25 digs for Mead.
The Panthers clinched the No. 2 seed to the District 8 4A tournament and can share the GSL crown if Central Valley (8-0) slips up Friday against Ferris.
Rachael Schlect led the Titans with 22 digs, 18 kills and three aces, while Kendall Collins totaled 28 assists and five blocks. U-Hi will enter postseason play as the No. 3 seed.
Elsewhere, Maria Adams had 12 kills as Gonzaga Prep (6-3) finished in fourth place with a 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15 victory at Lewis and Clark (3-6). G-Prep will host the No. 5 seed, either Lewis and Clark or Ferris, in a district loser-out match on Thursday.
Bailey Ricard finished with 10 kills and four blocks as Mt. Spokane (5-4) wrapped up the No. 1 seed to the District 8 3A tournament with a sweep of Rogers (0-9).
The Wildcats will host the Oct. 31 district and play a seeding game for regionals.
Mikayla Risinger had 16 assists and two blocks for Rogers.
Josie Orvik had nine kills and six blocks as visiting Shadle Park (4-5) defeated North Central 3-1.
Haillee Etter added 12 digs and three aces for the Highlanders. Kelli Orr had 31 assists and Kristen Swope 14 kills for the Indians (1-8).
The two will meet again Oct. 31 in a loser-out match of the District 8 3A tournament at Mt. Spokane.

Rylie Pease had 16 kills and Peyton Stark 30 assists as Cheney (8-3) took over first place alone with a 3-2 win at West Valley (1-10).
WV’s Jordan Gertje had 19 assists.
Elsewhere, Jaclyn Meyers finished with 15 kills, Molly Eggleston had 20 assists and visiting Clarkston (5-7) knocked Pullman (7-4) out of first place with a 3-2 victory.
Kayla Snyder added 15 digs for Clarkston.
