Strange calls to police as Halloween nears

As Halloween approaches, more than a few unusual calls have come in to the Liberty Lake Police Department.

An argument reported the afternoon of Oct. 20 in the 1400 block of North Aladdin Road turned out to be two adults arguing over children’s toys. Another screaming match in the 21000 block of East Courtyard Lane reported the evening of Oct. 22 was the result of a drunk woman upset at a man who refused to give her the keys to her car because she was too intoxicated to drive.

And on Oct. 23 a resident in the 24000 block of East Broadway Court called police to report that a neighbor’s dog had gone to the bathroom on his property. There was no official word on whether anyone picked up after the animal.

Other calls from Oct. 19-26

Oct. 19: An unlocked gate was discovered by an officer on patrol in the 19000 block of East Cataldo Avenue. The gate to the business was closed and secured.

Oct. 20: A resident in the 23000 block of East Broadway Avenue reported that he didn’t receive $3,700 in car parts that he had ordered.

Oct. 22: A woman in the 1400 block of North Caufield Court painted a four-square box in the middle of the road for her children to play in. She reportedly told an officer that she didn’t consider any flaws about the location until after she had painted it. A case of graffiti was reported at the Liberty Lake Skate Park. The incident is under investigation.

Oct. 23: Residents in the area of a barn in the 24000 block of East Mission Avenue reported that juveniles were hanging out there late at night. An officer found marijuana and drug paraphernalia hidden under a rock at the location.

Arrests: Police made six arrests for driving with a suspended license and one on a warrant.

Citations: Officers handed out three citations for expired vehicle registration, three for failure to show proof of liability insurance and four for speeding. Additional citations were given for no mirrors, no splash aprons/fenders, failure to stop at a red light, following too close and texting while driving.
