Spokane Chiefs lose for second time in WHL preseason

EVERETT – For the second straight game the Spokane Chiefs had their opportunities and couldn’t convert.

Despite a 31-30 shots advantage, Spokane gave up two goals each in the second and third periods and fell 4-0 to the Everett Silvertips in Western Hockey League preseason action Saturday at Xfinity Arena.

In their preseason opener on Friday, Spokane held a 32-25 advantage in shots, but fell 7-2 to Portland.

Everett’s Matt Fonteyne and Mackenzie Dwyer scored second-period goals. Cole Chorney and Yan Khomenko tacked on third-period goals.

Silvertips goaltender Mario Petit made 31 saves. Spokane goaltender Tyson Verhelst stopped 26 of 30 shots.

The Chiefs have five preseason games left, including Sept. 19 against Tri-City at the Arena.
