PJ’s Pub to hold fundraiser in memory of customer who died of cancer

The gang at PJ’s Pub, 1717 N. Monroe St., is raising funds Monday for cancer research as well as victims of this year’s wildfires.

Rick’s RELO Rally will include a pool tournament, raffle, trivia and a karaoke challenge.

Pool signups will start at 6 p.m. with the tournament getting underway at 7:30 p.m. The karaoke will start at 9:30 p.m.

The fundraiser is being held in memory of a well-liked customer, Rick Eckel, who died of brain cancer over the past year at age 28, said Meadow Frank, owner of PJ’s.

The RELO stands for Rick Eckel Lives On, and is the base design for tattoos now worn by four of the members of his pool team.

Frank said she plans to host the rally every year on Sept. 21, which was the date of the initial fundraiser for Eckel last year.

Each year, the event will benefit cancer research and a second cause. This year, some of the funds will go to relief efforts for victims of wildfires and firefighters.

Frank said she knows how difficult it is to lose belongings to fire. She went through a house fire herself.

“I feel for everybody who has been through it,” she said.
