Age 91

MOBERLY, Clell B.

(Age 90) Of Spokane, passed away peacefully August 19 at Newport Hospital & Health Services after a brief illness.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care he received from the medical community in Newport.

Born in Ritzville September 10, 1924, the Moberly family was one of the first generations of settlers in Green Bluff.

Clell attended the town’s three-room grade school before going on to graduate from Mead High School in 1942.

With the nation in the midst of World War II, he joined the war effort by signing up for the United States Naval Reserve in 1943.

Some of his most vivid memories were of his service in the naval yard in Bremerton, where his older brother Jay also served.

He was honorably discharged after a three-year tour of duty.

Clell then attended and graduated from Kinman Business University, where he met his future wife, Margaret.

He enjoyed a successful career with the Washington Water Power Company (Avista) as an auditor, accountant, and supervisor for 38 years before retiring to enjoy the lakeside cabin he and his wife built on Lake Pend Oreille.

Clell enjoyed helping people in any way he could, and volunteered at the front desk of Providence Medical Center for 22 years.

Clell was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Margaret.

He is survived by his son George Moberly (Julie) of Seattle; daughter Mary Berscheid (Gerry) of Newport; granddaughter Madeleine Moberly and grandson Peter Moberly; stepgrandsons Austin Berscheid and Brian (Rachel) Berscheid; stepgreat-grandson Boyd Berscheid; sister Ardith Klein (Dick) of Ephrata, and sisters-in-law Helen Moberly (Loren) and Sr. Elizabeth Gress, both of Spokane.

A Memorial Mass will take place Saturday, September 26, at 11 am at St. Charles Catholic Church, 4515 North Alberta Street, Spokane, with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Spokane Humane Society.
