Pick 6: Again with the same picks?

All the fun was sucked out of Pick 6 last week simply because Sam Adams and I had no differences. We went 5-1. I’ve gone 5-1 each week. For a second week in a row we don’t have any differences. I’ve got a four-game lead. I’m not going to do anything stupid. And I have to applaud Sam for playing it straight and not picking an upset here or there. He’s being patient. He overcame a four-game deficit in October a year ago to beat me. Through three weeks, the Scribe is 15-3 (.833, love that percentage) and the Talking Head is 11-7 (.611, love that percentage, too).

Gonzaga Prep vs. Mt. Spokane, Thursday, Albi, 7:15

Lee: Congrats to the Wildcats for their 3-0 start. But they get their first loss here. In many regards I consider Mt. Spokane and Mead on par with each other, and we know what G-Prep did against Mead last week. This is a good Mt. Spokane team. In fact, the Wildcats are much better than I anticipated. But G-Prep is simply better. G-Prep 30, Mt. Spokane 7. Adams: As long as quarterback Liam Bell is on the field, I don’t see anyone beating G-Prep in the regular season. The Bullpups have opened up the offense and are letting the quarterback throw! Add that to the triple option and you’re going to see plenty of deep balls. G-Prep 28, Mt. Spokane 21. Colfax vs. Northwest Christian, Friday, EWU, 6 Lee: The Crusaders are probably the second-best team in the Northeast 2B behind powerhouse Lind-Ritzville/Sprague. NWC quarterback David Olds is the best QB in the league and he has some talent around him. Colfax coach Mike Morgan has been around the block a while and he’ll come up with a plan. But this is a breakout year for the Crusaders. NWC 32, Colfax 13. Adams: Year No. 3 for football at NWC and the Crusaders are looking like South Florida when it started up its program in NCAA Division I. Now comes the biggest test yet – the Colfax Bulldogs. Sprinkle in the Red Turf and you have a great matchup between the up-and-comers and the salty veterans. NWC 35, Colfax 21.

Moscow at West Valley, Friday, 7

Lee: The Bears are 0-2 against GNL teams with lopsided losses against arguably the league’s top two teams, Pullman and Clarkston. The Eagles have lost two by a combined six points. WV’s speed and being at home will be the difference. WV 31, Moscow 19. Adams: The Bears put up 40 points last week and they still lost to Pullman. This game will be decided on defense, and the Eagles have it. Moscow hasn’t beaten WV since 2010, and that trend should continue Friday. WV 20, Moscow 19.

Sandpoint at East Valley, Friday, 7

Lee: The Bulldogs have lost three straight since a 20-19 opening win over Post Falls, which put a 42-7 hurting on the Knights last week. Sandpoint has had a difficult schedule and struggled with injuries, but the Bulldogs should get healthy, at least mentally, Friday. Sandpoint 38, EV 13. Adams: The Knights are coming off their first loss. The Bulldogs have lost three after their opener. Sandpoint has taken its licks against Idaho 5A and Washington 4A and 3A teams. Sandpoint is looking to shore up a defense that’s surrendered 120 points in three losses. Friday’s game should be the trick. Sandpoint 29, EV 14.

Coeur d’Alene at Highland, Friday, 7:45

Lee: This has become a fun, respectful rivalry the last five years. These teams love to play each other because it usually brings out the best in each other and exposes areas needing improvement. Location is the key for me here. Highland is difficult to beat at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena. Highland 27, CdA 21. Adams: The Vikings are rolling just in time for a mammoth matchup in Pocatello with Highland. As far as CdA has come since Week 1, I’m not sure the Viks have come far enough to topple the defending state champs on their home field. Highland 27, CdA 21.

Ferris vs. Lewis and Clark, Friday, Albi, 7:30

Lee: The Saxons have yet to score. And you know the Saxons’ South Hill rival, LC, doesn’t want to be the first team to surrender points. Not sure who the Tigers will start at quarterback after Jordan Summers sprained an ankle last week. It won’t matter. And the Saxons, unfortunately, won’t score this week either. LC 20, Ferris 0 Adams: A South Hill showdown is just what the Tigers need to get back on track after consecutive losses to Moses Lake and Central Valley. Good news – Ferris will score its first points after getting shutout 130-0 in a 0-3 start. But LC will prevail. LC 35, Ferris 6.
