13 SC Boeing workers charged with state income tax evasion

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Officials with the South Carolina Department of Revenue expect more arrests after 13 Boeing workers were charged with evading state income taxes.

Local media outlets report that the workers have been charged with failing to pay state income taxes totaling more than $100,000.

A Boeing spokeswoman says the company is cooperating with the investigation and the workers charged have been suspended from their jobs.

The Department of Revenue alleges the workers claimed they were exempt from state taxes and didn’t file returns even though they knew they owed the money. Conviction on a charge of tax evasion in South Carolina carries a maximum $10,000 fine and five years in prison.

Boeing employs about 8,100 workers in North Charleston where it makes the 787 Dreamliner.
