Education Notebook: Three area high school students win EWU scholarships
Three area high school students have received Eastern Washington University’s Presidential Scholarship, worth $3,000, for the 2015-16 school year.
Koby Wilburn (Mead High School), Katya Salnikova (Summit Christian Academy) and Jarrett Browning (Mt. Spokane High School) plan to attend Eastern in the fall.
The scholarship is awarded to students with a 3.8 or higher high school GPA and a SAT score of 1,250 or higher or an ACT score of 28 or higher.
Cheney students take honors at art show
Cheney High School students won several awards and scholarships at the Regional High School Art Show reception, which was held March 18 at the Northeast Washington ESD 101.
With her piece, “Hiraeth,” Maggie Booth received a first-place citation, a Central Washington University scholarship award and NEWESD 101 Staff Choice award.
Anna Payne also won a Central Washington University scholarship, and Alsatta Bakana won a first place award and the Judges’ Choice award. Avienda Chapman won a first place award, and Jordan Scholten received a second place award.
Artists who placed first will advance to the state art show in Olympia.
Ferris named to Mayor’s urban design awards
Spokane Public Schools and NAC Architecture have been awarded the mayor’s 2015 Urban Design Merit Award for the Ferris High School modernization and replacement project.
The award celebrates creativity, technical proficiency and the relationship between good urban design to Spokane’s economic health. The Ferris project received the award because it followed the 15 Principles of Good Design.
