Obituary: Shay, Larry Duane

Age 70

SHAY, Larry Duane
(Age 70)

Larry was born on March 13, 1946, in Spokane, WA, to William and Florence Shay, and passed away April 18, 2016, in Newman Lake, WA.

Larry has always made the most of life.

As a rowdy Spokane Valley boy and a ‘64 East Valley High School graduate, he applied lessons of hard work, starting out as an auto body man and retiring after many years with PAML.

He was a great storyteller, historian and artist.

He lived every weekend chasing old railroad beds, visiting friends, yodeling with his boys’ band, and spending joyful hours on his property for his MANY beloved friends and family to enjoy.

Yet, his proudest achievement was being a wonderful father and grandfather.

Larry is survived by his children, Christopher Shay (Thomara) and Kevin Shay, both of Newman Lake, WA; loving companion, Mary Murphy (and daughters Rebecca, Jessica and Rachael); former wife, Sandra Shay; sisters, Doris Atchison, and Donna Richter (Daryl), grandchildren, Morgen, Makayla, Madison and Macy; aunts, Alice Hylland and Esther Kristrom.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Florence Obedie Shay; father, William Lloyd Shay; brother, Roger Shay.

A ‘Celebration of Life’ BBQ/Potluck will be held at ‘The Shay Compound’ at 25625 E. Trent on Saturday, April 30th from 2 to 6 PM.

A private family Inurnment will be held at the Pines Cemetery.
