Chiefs sign another draft pick for ‘17 season

The Spokane Chiefs announced Monday that forward Carter Chorney has signed a standard player agreement and has committed to playing in the Western Hockey League. Chorney was the Chiefs’ third pick (second round, 39th overall) in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

“We are very excited to sign Carter and have him officially join our organization,” Chiefs’ general manager Tim Speltz said in a news release. “With his size, scoring ability and leadership qualities, we expect Carter to be an important part of our team in the future.”

Chorney, a 6-foot, 170-pound winger from Sherwood Park, Alberta, scored 31 goals and 35 assists in just 36 games with the Sherwood Park Flyers Bantam AAA team during the 2015-16 season. He also scored six goals and eight assists in 10 playoff games.

As a 2001-born player, he is eligible to join the Chiefs full-time during the 2017-18 season.
