Fire along I-90 burns vehicles in Coeur d’Alene

Two fires started simultaneously on the north side of Interstate 90 near U.S. Highway 95 in Coeur d’Alene late Saturday morning.

The fires started along the off-ramp to U.S. 95 and the on-ramp to I-90 from U.S. 95 around 11:40 a.m., according to a news release from the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. Several hotels, including Motel 6, the Shiloh Inn Suites and the Best Western Plus, were asked to voluntarily evacuate until the fire was under control.

Multiple vehicles parked in lots overlooking the freeway behind several businesses were burned in the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fires is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the police tip line at (208) 769-2296.
