Locally: Gonzaga hires assistant coach men’s golf
Gonzaga men’s golf coach Robert Gray announced this week the hire of Scott Kim as an assistant coach.
Kim joins the Bulldogs after finishing his collegiate career at Oregon State in 2015.
“I’m incredibly excited and thankful to Coach Gray for this opportunity,” Kim said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to developing a relationship with the team while building on the recent success of the program.”
Kim was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar in 2014. He was also selected to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team following his junior and senior seasons, after being tabbed second team in 2013.
The Gonzaga men’s golf team begins its 2016-17 schedule at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman on Sept. 12.
Rowing
Washington State senior Nicole Hare returned from the Olympic Games in Rio to win gold for Canada in the women’s pair at the 2016 World Rowing Under 23 Championships at Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Her WSU teammate, Lucie Weissova, picked up a B Final win for the Czech Republic’s eight; and former Cougar rower Morgan Cathrea took home a B Final win in Canada’s four.
Hare, of Calgary, Alberta, was competing with Hillary Janssens in the pair event and helped Canada row past the United States, Italy, Russia, Norway and Germany in the final.
Weissova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, and currently a junior on the WSU rowing team, helped her eight row to a five-second victory over France in the B Final of competition.
Cathrea, a 2016 graduate, won her B Final in team Canada’s four, defeating China, Poland, and the Ukraine with a time of 6:53.950.
