Letters to the sports editor

Neuheisel recovery in place

It took 15 years or so for the two national championship football programs that Rick Neuheisel turned into losers to recover.

The national champion Colorado Buffaloes became a fourth-place team in the six-team West Division of the Big 12 in three years.

For that stunning achievement (Washington athletic director) Babs Hedges made him her first hire as coach of the Huskies, presumably because he was the cutest applicant.

In a few years he had worked his magic again, and the Huskies became league doormats.

Now, after all this time, Washington won the Neuheisel Bowl on Friday and was crowned the Pac-12 champion.
