HELMER, Chloe E.
(Age 90)

Passed away peacefully at her home, Orchard Crest Retirement Community on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Dale C. Helmer and two sisters, Maxine Hall of Colfax, WA and Pauline Wren of Otis Orchards, WA.

Chloe was born to Ollie and Lily Hamlet of Spokane, WA on November 23, 1925.

Chloe graduated from Washtucna High School in 1944 and married Dale on July 24 of the same year.

She briefly worked as a telephone operator in Ritzville.

She and Dale farmed near Spangle for eight years before moving into town in 1952.

From 1953 to 1969 they owned and operated Chloe & Dale’s Cafe.

She then worked for Liberty School Dist.

from 1970 to 1978.

Through 1978 to 1991 she worked and retired from the Pub food service at Eastern Washington University.

Chloe enjoyed dancing much of her life, beginning with tap dancing and acrobatics as a child, followed by many years of ballroom dancing at local granges with Dale.

She is survived by her son Larry and his wife, Diana of Colbert, WA; grand-daughters, Kelli and Kristi of Spokane, WA; and great-grandsons, Josiah and Jace of Spokane, WA.

The family wishes to thank Orchard Crest and Horizon Hospice for their wonderful care.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 13, at 11:00 am at Rosalia 100F Evergreen Cemetery.

A luncheon will follow at the Spangle Service Club.
