Whitworth baseball team sweeps series

WHITTIER, Calif. – Nicholas Nerud and Joel Condreay sparked a four-run, seventh-inning rally and Whitworth went on to take a 9-7 victory over Whittier for a series sweep.

Whitworth (4-0) came back from a deficit twice in the game to top Whittier (0-3) for a third time on the weekend, following a season-opening win at Cal Lutheran.

Pinch-hitter Nerud made it 7-5 with his two-run single before pinch-runner Skyler Lookabill eventually came home on Condreay’s single.

Whittier cut the lead to 8-6 with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning but Matthew Nelson’s solo homer re-extended the lead to three in the eighth.
