Two arrested after armed robbery, freeway chase in North Idaho

Two young males armed with a knife robbed a Wallace store early Sunday morning and led police on a high-speed chase on Interstate 90.

The Wallace Super Stop was robbed shortly after 1:30 a.m., Shoshone County Sheriff Mitch Alexander said in a news release. The suspects took cash from the register and fled in a Honda Pilot westbound on the freeway.

A sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the vehicle at Kellogg but it took off at a high rate of speed, Alexander said. Another deputy also attempted to pull over the vehicle as the chase reached speeds over 100 mph. The deputies and a Kellogg police officer pursued the suspects to milepost 34, where an Idaho State Police trooper stopped the SUV with a spike strip.

The suspects, both under the influence of alcohol, had escaped from a facility for troubled youth, Alexander said. They face charges of armed robbery, felony eluding and possession of stolen property, the sheriff said. The Honda was reported stolen out of Utah.
