Added Oakland Raiders rookie receiver Amari Cooper was added Thursday to the Pro Bowl as an injury replacement. The NFL said Cooper would take the place of New York Jets wideout Brandon Marshall.

Sentenced UConn basketball icon Tate George was sentenced to the maximum of nine years in prison after being convicted of operating a real estate Ponzi scheme that cost investors $2.55 million. George had 19 victims in the scheme, including former UConn star and NBA player Charlie Villaneuva.

Promoted The Chiefs promoted Brad Childress and Matt Nagy to co-offensive coordinators, where they will replace new Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson.

Staying Former University of Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel will remain at the university as a fundraiser and ambassador, earning nearly $1 million over the length of a three-year contract. Pinkel, 63, announced his retirement in November, citing his diagnosis of a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that was discovered in the spring.

Appointed College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock announced that Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens, former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, former Southern Mississippi coach Jeff Bower and former Central Michigan coach and athletic director Herb Deromedi will be added to the College Football Playoff selection committee starting next season.

Dismissed Florida prosecutors decided not to file charges in a domestic disturbance case involving New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman and his girlfriend. Broward Assistant State Attorney Stefanie Newman wrote in a close-out memo that conflicting accounts and insufficient evidence made a conviction unlikely.

Approved University of Illinois trustees approved a contract that will pay football coach Bill Cubit $1.2 million per year for two years. Cubit’s pay is the lowest in the Big Ten. The contract is also unusually short. Most coaches are signed for at least four years.

Charged Authorities say two former college football players, TE Bryce Dixon from the University of Southern California and DT Trey Lealaimatafao from Louisiana State University, were charged with a string of robberies and a carjacking in Los Angeles. They were charged with five counts of second-degree robbery and one count each of carjacking, attempted carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon.
