Second flu-related death reported in Kitsap County

.

BREMERTON, Wash. – Health officials in Kitsap County are urging flu shots and other prevention strategies after a child died of complications from the flu.

It’s the second flu-related death reported in the county this season. An adult also died of complications from the flu in November.

The Kitsap Public Health District says it learned this week that the child died of complications from influenza. The agency did not provide more details about the child.

But Pegy Lowery, of Port Orchard, told local media that her 12-year-old daughter, Piper, died several days after coming down with a high fever.

Health officials say the flu can be very serious for children, even otherwise healthy children.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a seasonal flu vaccination.
