Girls basketball roundup: Mead extends win streak to five with victory over West Valley of Yakima

Alyse Jackson led three players in double figures with 17 points and Mead extended its winning streak to five games with a 56-51 victory over West Valley of Yakima in a nonleague game Saturday at Mead.

Payton Douglass added 13 points and Aaliyah Pauling chipped in 12 for the Panthers, who made seven 3-pointers.

Nicole Rasmussen led the Rams with 16 points.

Mead (10-5) resumes Greater Spokane League play at Ferris on Tuesday.

Rogers 69, Medical Lake 67: Atyzha Upton had 27 points and 11 rebounds and the Pirates (1-14) erased a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit and beat the visiting Cardinals (4-11). Akon Aleu’s basket with 1:30 left in the fourth gave Rogers a 66-65 lead and Upton made two free throws late to seal it. The Pirates’ Tia Kendall added 14 points and Aleu finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Medical Lake’s Makayla Geiger and Bradyn Wegner scored 14 apiece.

Big Sky 41, Coeur d’Alene 37: The Eagles made 6 of 8 free throws in the final 3 minutes and escaped with a win over the host Vikings (7-11). Coeur d’Alene trailed by nine in the fourth quarter, but scored eight straight to cut the deficit to one. The Vikings’ Emily Callahan made three 3-pointers and scored 13 points.

Glacier 58, Lake City 47: Hailee Bennett scored 18 points and the Wolfpack used a 33-19 third-quarter run to get past the Timberwolves (16-3) in Coeur d’Alene. Lake City’s Cierra Dvorak and Lauren Rewers scored 10 apiece.

Deary 41, Kootenai 35 (OT): Bailee Swanson scored 23 and the Mustangs outlasted the visiting Warriors. Kootenai’s Hannah Whipple made two free throws at the end of the fourth to force overtime. The Warriors were led by Kaili Gentry’s 19 points.

Inland Empire 5A

Lewiston 57, Post Falls 49: Haylee Weeks and Cameron Cady scored 13 points apiece and the Bengals (11-2, 3-2) used a hot start to get past the host Trojans (11-8, 3-2). Post Falls’ Mackenzie Morris scored 10 points and Melody Kempton pulled down 14 rebounds.

Great Northern

East Valley 53, Clarkston 51: Jordan Phelan scored 14 points, Hannah Burland added 13 and the Knights (15-2, 8-0) beat the Bantams (9-7, 6-2) in a back-and-forth game in Clarkston. East Valley outscored Clarkston 20-5 to erase a five-point halftime deficit and then survived the Bantams’ 18-10 fourth-quarter rally. Clarkston’s Sequoia Swan scored 19 and Jaclyn Meyers added 15.

Pullman 55, West Valley 45: Madi Mueller had 23 points and 15 rebounds and the Greyhounds (6-10, 2-6) held the Eagles (4-12, 1-7) to three first-quarter points and won in Pullman. West Valley’s Claire Sinner had 23 points and seven rebounds.

Northeast 2B

Reardan 35, Wilbur-Creston 32: Gabby Singer scored 10 points and made two free throws late in the fourth to send the Indians (5-11, 2-9) past the Wildcats (4-11, 2-10) in Wilbur. Jessi Reed scored nine points for Wilbur-Creston.

St. George’s 42, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 40: Abby Jones’ lay-in late in the fourth gave the Dragons (13-5, 8-2) a comeback-win over the Broncos (13-4, 9-2) in Ritzville. Hailey Higashi finished with 21 points for St. George’s. She hit a late 3-pointer to tie the game at 40. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague’s Peyton Curtis and Madi Harder combined for 23 points.

Davenport 48, Kettle Falls 40: Meika Heath poured in 27 points as the Gorillas (14-3, 10-2) opened the game on a 19-9 run and beat the visiting Bulldogs (5-12, 2-9). Makayla Hall led three Kettle Falls players in double figures with 12 points.

Northwest Christian 47, Springdale 37: Rachel Bozlee had 14 points and six steals and Savanna Morash added 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals as the Crusaders (10-7, 8-4) topped the visiting Chargers (5-10, 3-8). Springdale’s Eilish Smith scored 14.

Northeast 1B

Cusick 68, Wellpinit 57: Jocelin Nenema scored 10 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter and the Panthers (8-7, 8-4) forced 28 turnovers in a win over the host Redskins (7-9, 6-5). Racheal Wynne added 15 points and Brianna Balcom and Renee Wynne each added 12. Wellpinit freshman Christina Carden scored a career-high 29 points and added six rebounds and four blocks.

Odessa-Harrington 40, Northport 32: Maleah Davison had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Katie DeWulf added nine points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals as the Titans (6-9, 6-4) clipped the Mustangs (4-11, 3-9) in Odessa. Northport’s Hailey Young scored 12.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 66, Curlew 13: Gabi Isaak scored 18 points, Brenna Oliver added 14 and the Warriors (15-1, 12-0) grabbed control from the outset in an easy win over the Cougars (3-12, 2-10) in Coulee City. Berlyn Hunt added 10 points and seven assists for Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

Valley Christian 61, Inchelium 30: Kailee Hayek scored 19 points, Phoebe Trigsted added 16 and the Panthers (8-9, 6-6) opened the game on a 20-5 run and beat the host Hornets (2-11, 1-10).

Selkirk 51, Columbia 9: Gabi Rick scored 14 points and Ellen Huttle added 11 as the Rangers (10-6, 8-4) overwhelmed the visiting Lions (0-12, 0-10).

Southeast 1B

Colton 58, Touchet 55: Zoe Moser scored 21 points and Rachel Meyer added 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Wildcats (15-1, 10-0) edged the host Indians. Touchet, which opened the game on a 14-2 run, got 31 points from Cierra Jo McKeown.

Oakesdale 59, St. John-Endicott 48: Anne Hockett had 14 points and nine rebounds and the Nighthawks (9-7, 4-6) used an 18-9 third-quarter run to get past the Eagles (7-9, 3-7) in St. John. Abby Glorfield scored 19 points for St. John-Endicott.

Garfield-Palouse 45, Liberty Christian 42: Keely Burnes had 15 points and five assists and Katie Arrasmith added 14 points and nine rebounds as the Vikings (8-8, 4-6) edged the Patriots in Richland. Liberty Christian’s Maddie Godwin scored 22.

Pomeroy 59, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 2: Sydney Smith scored 15 points and Kacey Halbert added 14 as the Pirates overwhelmed the visiting Tigercats (3-12, 1-10).
