Events planned in Idaho to commemorate Canadian oil train accident

Local activists have scheduled several events Saturday and Tuesday as part of a national “Stop Oil Trains” week commemorating the fiery accident in Lac Megantic, Quebec three years ago that killed 47 people.

350 Sandpoint will host a gathering at 9 a.m. Saturday at the gazebo at City Beach with refreshments and information to share.

The Palouse Environmental Sustainability Coalition will be doing outreach at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Square in Moscow during the Farmer’s Market.

Wild Idaho Rising Tide is presenting an oil train watch workshop at 3 p.m. Saturday at the East Bonner County Library in Sandpoint. The presentation will feature track-side monitoring of trains.

Wild Idaho Rising Tide will also hold an 8 p.m. candle light vigil and march Tuesday for people killed in the Quebec accident. The event starts at the clock in Farmin Park in Sandpoint.
